From the Author
Maybe you are like I was, somewhere between a little confused to completely in the dark about what I wanted to do with my life. And, if I did figure that our...how was I going to pull it off? I really wanted to be successful, to contribute, to be respected, to be secure, and to have financial freedom. But I didn't know how.

The rules for doing so didn't work for me. Good grades, college, a family business or career counseling. Instead, I was fortunate to hook up with some people who had powerful alternatives, and given my history, I was fortunate to finally listen to them...the results have been staggering.

I had to hear this informationa lot of different ways before I heard it in a way that I got it. I expect that when you study the flow of these secrets, you will get it too. Then all you have to do is hold on. --Richard Bliss Brooke

About the Author
Richard Brooke grew up on a cattle ranch in central California. After high school, Richard pumped gas at Pearson's Arco at the corner of G and Olive streets. He lived at the gas station in his camper. After failing to lock the front door of the gas station two nights in a row, he was fired and went to work for Foster Farms, the largest poultry processing plant in the world. It was a union job that paid $3.05 an hour, complete with benefits, seniority, vacation, and best of all—retirement. Richard cut chickens into parts as they flew past him on the production line.

Having established gainful employment at the age of 22, Richard fully expected to spend the next forty years of his life working at the chicken plant, building seniority (POWER), vacation time (FUN), and clicking off the years to retirement (FREEDOM).

Then a friend introduced Richard to a business model that promised fun, freedom and (as he would later describe it) a life beyond money: Multi Level Marketing (MLM). Stepping in to a new way of thinking and working required a huge change in perspective. Richard had to believe that he was both capable and deserving of success, and then relentlessly pursue a new direction in his life. With the help of friends, mentors and coaches, he did just that.

Richard made his first million before the age of 30, advancing to the top sales-leader position in a $60 million Network Marketing organization made up of more than 200,000 sales people. At age 31, he became the Executive Vice President of that company. Since that time he was inducted into the MLM Hall of Fame, served on the ethics committee and is a current member of the Direct Selling Association (DSA), served on the board of the MLMIA, and current owns and operates his own MultiLevel Marketing company.

Through Richard's coaching, writings and seminars thousands of leaders and network marketers have discovered new distinctions in listening, leadership, courage, relationships, team spirit and big-time fun. He is the author of Mailbox Money, Mach II and co-author of The New Entrepreneurs: Business Visionaries for the 21st Century. Some of the presentations that Richard has authored include:

-The 4-Year Career Plan™
-Listening Through Objections
-Value-Based Prospecting
-Vision and Self-Motivation
-The Un-Boss
-The New Leaders
-Therapeutic Listening
-Coaching For Personal Breakthrough
-A Life Beyond Money

Richard continues to play full out from his home on the lake in the resort community of Coeur d' Alene, Idaho and a horse ranch in the California foothills. He enjoys Harleys, golf, water sports, scuba-diving, skiing, snowmobiling, helicopter flying, a good game of poker and a real Cuban cigar.

A Great Book
By derazz
This book releases some great thoughts into your subconscious mind .These empowering thoughts fill you with a realization about your true ability to control and accomplish the things you want.
It is great on helping you come up with a vision and gives you the keys to 'bringing on' the self-motivation you need to hit your mark.
it tells you how you should go about it and the subconscious mechanisms you already possesss which will help you get there.
it is a clearly enlightening book.
It was on the highly recommended 'to-read-references' in another book i read prior ,entitled:
'If How To's Were Enough, We Would All Be Skinny, Rich and Happy' by Brian Klemmer.
An equally worthwhile read.
other books (in the same sort of carriage) that i'd recommend to you without reservation are:
'Mastery' by George leonard.
one that also helped me put life & my time into much better perspective is:
'How to get control of your time & life' by Alan Lakein.( This is a great book ).
cheers :-)

Enlightening
By A. Cummings
I loved this book by Richard Brooke. I also read MachII starring you. Both are a must read for anyone in a network marketing business. This book has a very clear explanation of the law of attraction without all the cloak and dagger of "the secret" I especially loved his definition of vision: "To the degree there is a contrast between how we are performing now and how we envision ourselves performing, motivation pours forth. This is an automatic and natural effect. It flows whether we want it to or not." "If you think you can or think you can't you are right"

-I think Henry Ford said that. Anyway read the book. It's worth every penny.

The American Counties: Origins of County Names, Dates of Creation, Area, and Population Data, 1950-2010, by Charles Curry Aiken, Joseph Na

Most Americans give little thought to their county’s size, population, when it was created, or how its name came about. But such information can be very helpful to anyone, particularly researchers and genealogists, investigating local or state history. Drawing on information obtained from the 2010 Census, the 6th edition of The American Counties provides up-to-date data on each county’s:

  • land area
  • population
  • county seat
  • date of creation
  • name origin
  • dates of governmental organization, elimination, and re-creation

This edition includes information on counties created since the previous edition was published as well as more precise “date of creation” details for many colonial counties. If a county is named for a geographical feature—river, mountain, lake, etc.—the origin of the name and the meaning of any Indian or foreign words is provided. For those counties that were named after a specific individual, a brief sketch of the person’s life is provided, including updated biographical information from previous editions.

The Introduction has been expanded to address such topics as counties with similar names, persons who have more than one namesake county, the paucity of counties named for women, the practice of creating counties in uninhabited regions, and legislators naming counties for each other. At the request of many readers, the 6th edition contains new appendices ranking all counties nationally by population and area, as well as an appendix listing counties that have been eliminated.

Containing information on all 3,143 counties and county equivalents (independent cities, parishes, boroughs, etc.) in the United States, the 6th edition of The American Counties
is an essential resource for researchers looking for basic information on counties in the United States.

Siteless: 1001 Building Forms, by François Blanciak

Some may call it the first manifesto of the twenty-first century, for it lays down a new way to think about architecture. Others may think of it as the last architectural treatise, for it provides a discursive container for ideas that would otherwise be lost. Whatever genre it belongs to, SITELESS is a new kind of architecture book that seems to have come out of nowhere. Its author, a young French architect practicing in Tokyo, admits he "didn't do this out of reverence toward architecture, but rather out of a profound boredom with the discipline, as a sort of compulsive reaction." What would happen if architects liberated their minds from the constraints of site, program, and budget? he asks. The result is a book that is saturated with forms, and as free of words as any architecture book the MIT Press has ever published.

The 1001 building forms in SITELESS include structural parasites, chain link towers, ball bearing floors, corrugated corners, exponential balconies, radial facades, crawling frames, forensic housing -- and other architectural ideas that may require construction techniques not yet developed and a relation to gravity not yet achieved. SITELESS presents an open-ended compendium of visual ideas for the architectural imagination to draw from. The forms, drawn freehand (to avoid software-specific shapes) but from a constant viewing angle, are presented twelve to a page, with no scale, order, or end to the series. After setting down 1001 forms in siteless conditions and embryonic stages, Blanciak takes one of the forms and performs a "scale test," showing what happens when one of these fantastic ideas is subjected to the actual constraints of a site in central Tokyo. The book ends by illustrating the potential of these shapes to morph into actual building proportions.

Imagine Learning from Las Vegas as illustrated by Chris Ware, and you'll get a sense of Franois Blanciak's marvelously inventive new book.

(Metropolis)

In Siteless: 1001 Building Forms, French architect Franois Blanciak surrenders the usual anchors of function and site for an exercise in pure form. His astoundingly imaginative 1,001 designs could challenge architects and engineers for decades.

To the magic of architectural creativity
By Tor O. Austigard
To claim this book just adds to the general tendency of contemporary architecture seeking the immediately shocking, superficial and easily publishable is perhaps a sign of precisely this tendency: people losing the ability to dwell on things long enough for their imagination to come out.

Once applied on actual architecture these concepts would need to be closely linked to program, scale and site to be interesting. However in the initial program-, scale- and siteless condition they are presented in this book, they evoke intense imagination in me. The sketches being hand drawn also adds to this.

You can be impatient and flip through it in five minutes, or you can focus your attention and find the potential and depth these forms have.

Anyway, diverging criticism and provocation is usually a sign of quality.

Extremely helpful if your stuck in the design process
By NZarch
I would recommend this book to anybody who sometimes struggles with coming up with new ideas or often gets stuck in the design process.. I often flick through this book for inspiration or ideas. The forms inside do not necessarily need to be replicated, but can often lead to developments in your own ideas.

A really helpful, small book that should be kept in any architecture students backpack

A highly creative book
By Natrick Pickels
I am not an architect but I am fascinated by the multiple varieties of shapes in this book. I can literally dive into this imaginative world.
The architectural context seems to give the work some kind of
justification, which is not needed. It is a fine piece of art all by
itself.
It makes a good present as well, as the price is very reasonable, and can be a source of inspiration not only for architects but also for artists (I personally intend to offer it to a friend who is a wood sculptor). I think this book is an appealing work for all kinds of creative people.

The Beast Within (Penguin Classics), by Emile Zola

His haunting, impressionistic study of a man's slow corruption by jealousy, Emile Zola's The Beast Within (La Bete Humaine) is translated from the French with an introduction and notes by Roger Whitehouse in Penguin Classics. Roubaud is consumed by a jealous rage when he discovers a sordid secret about his young wife's past. The only way he can rest is by forcing her to help him murder the man involved, but there is a witness - Jacques Lantier, a fellow railway employee. Jacques, meanwhile, must contend with his own terrible impulses, for every time he sees a woman he feels the overwhelming desire to kill. In the company of Roubaud's wife, Severine, he finds peace briefly, yet his feelings for her soon bring disasterous consequences. A key work in the Rougon-Macquart cycle, The Beast Within is one of Zola's most dark and violent works - a tense thriller of political corruption and a graphic exploration of the criminal mind. Roger Whitehouse's vivid translation is accompanied by an introduction discussing Zola's depiction of the railways, politics and the legal system and the influence of the studies of criminology and the Jack the Ripper murders on his novel. This edition also includes a chronology, suggestions for further reading and notes. Emile Zola (1840-1902) was the leading figure in the French school of naturalistic fiction. His principal work, Les Rougon-Macquart, is a panorama of mid-19th century French life, in a cycle of 20 novels which Zola wrote over a period of 22 years, including Au Bonheur des Dames (1883), The Beast Within (1890), Nana (1880), and The Drinking Den (1877). If you enjoyed The Beast Within, you might like Zola's The Drinking Den, also available in Penguin Classics.

"It must be easy to kill, then! Everybody did it!"
By Steve W.
Although I haven't read the entire Rougon-Macquart series - not even close - I think there's a good chance that this is the most violent and shocking entry in Zola's 20-book cycle. This novel (no. 17 in the series) is populated with characters who are battling violent impulses - or "the beast within" of the title. When all is said and done, it would appear that not a single person's hands are clean. Everyone contributes in some way to the destructive and inhumane deeds scattered throughout this grim tale, which is said to have inspired later writers of "noir" crime fiction.

Cavernous train stations and a desolate house located right next to the railroad tracks are among the suitably atmospheric backdrops, and the locomotives that barrel across the countryside are an extension of human beings who mindlessly destroy those in their path. Zola provides some wonderful, cutting commentary on the technological progress that railways of the day are supposed to epitomize. This, after a horrific derailment: "What did it matter that a few nameless people had come to an end beneath their wheels? The dead had been carried away, and the blood had been cleaned up. People were on the move again - towards a bright, new future!"

As the story moves along, Zola explores violence through the perspectives of multiple characters. The number of incidents do indeed pile up, but I don't want to give away the story (unlike the Penguin book jacket; more on that later). Typical for Zola, the story builds up to a terrific conclusion - in this case, one of the most exciting in all of 19th-century literature. Zola's portrayal of the corrupt and unjust legal system is also illuminating. Those familiar with this series will not be surprised that there are several amazing set pieces in "The Beast Within," including the description of a train plowing through a blizzard to get to Paris. There are a few flaws. The motives that Zola ascribes to one character's violent acts aren't entirely convincing. The drama can also be a tad over-heated and heavy-handed at times.

A note on the Penguin edition: I appreciate some of the features of Penguin paperbacks such as the new, larger font size and the helpful explanatory notes. However, I certainly don't appreciate the completely artless story summary on the back cover, which in the span of a few short sentences gives away at least four spoilers. Please, Penguin - describe plots in more general terms so that readers can discover stories for themselves.

Oh, and one more thing - while reading this book the thought will probably cross your mind that it would make a thrilling movie. In fact, several movie adaptations have been made, most notably by Jean Renoir and Fritz Lang. I haven't seen those films, but the movie posters look extremely stylish and cool!

Movie special
By Boche
Both films made from the novel are better for today's readers. Zola wanted to shock people and he did that in the 1890s. However, he's a bit too interested in description and too determined about character for today. Still, it makes a decent read if you have a few spare days.

"Who could fathom the shadowy mind of the beast within?"
By Z. E. Lowell
While this new translation of "La Bete Humaine" starts off a bite more melodramatic than some of Zola's other works, in the end the author succeeds in drawing the reader into a nightmarish world of infidelity, greed, abuse, murder and madness.

This is a thought-provoking work - equal in many respects to "Crime and Punishment" - although at times Zola's depiction of blood lust and violence (especially violent acts committed against women) are hard to handle. Yet, however sensationalized or gratuitous the violence and depravity seems, I hope it is obvious that this is meant to be a social commentary rather than a celebration of certain kinds of reprehensible behavior. Another possible criticism is that there are too many ideas floating around in this novel - Zola in fact formed the plot by combining two separate story ideas into one book, which I think makes it less focused than some of his other works ("Germinal" or "L'Assommoir" for example) - and the author's ideas about heredity and crime seem less believable today than perhaps they would have to contemporary readers.

Yet, these points aside, "The Beast Within" is still a fascinating read and a deeply unsettling look at the human condition.

Great fun! Hope it is not really the last book!
By Beagle
A welcome addition to the other books in the series. It adds some odds and ends armies including Early Republican Roman, Etruscan League, Umbrian Allies, Italian Hill Tribes, Latin, Samnite, Campanian, Apulian, Lucanian or Bruttian, Early Nomad, Early Highland Raiders, Early Elamite, Amorite Kingdoms, Vietnamese, Pre-Islamic Arabian, Later Pre-Islamic Bedouin, Axumite, Beja, Nile Valley Blemmye or Early Nobatae, Tuareg, Medieval German City Leagues, later Medieval Feudal German, Later Medieval Frisian or Dithmarschen (who the heck are these guys??).

The big list that is missing is Early Hebrew. Perhaps this will come later?

These books are well laid out with a bit of historical background to accompany the wonderful Osprey pictures.

By Fox Forrester
It wasn't bad it was filled with more 'obscure' groups that weren't included in other titles such as: Early Republican Roman, Etruscan League, Umbrian Allies, Italian Hill Tribes, Latin, Samnite, Campanian, Apullian, Lucanian, or Bruttian, Early Nomad, Early Highland Raiders, Early Elamite, Amorite Kingdoms, Vietnamese, Pre-Islamic Arabian, Later Pre-Islamic Bedouin, Axumite, Beja, Nile Valley, Blemmye or Early Nobatae, Tuareg, Medieval German City Leagues, Later Medieval Frisian or Dithmarschen.

All in all I'd say it was a nice book to complete my series, filling in the gaps from the other books. However, they span a much greater depth of time than other books and lacks an overall theme and won't be that useful without other books. However, this book has the quality one would expect from the series and if you're looking at this book odds are you have other titles in Field of Glory. And if you don't have other FoG titles, then this isn't a good first book. All in all I'd say this is a nice title, but because this title exists to fill in the gaps and lacks a theme as a result, I can't really give it a 5 out of 5. I'd advise this book for collectors of the entire series, or if you're interested in army lists of one of the above factions listed.

By T. E. Constantine IV
Quality product from the FofG crew, excellent army lists and painting tips, but it lacks the campaigns that the description claims, which is my only disappointment with this produst. I really like the Field of Glory rules set, my game group are able to finally finish a battle in one or two evenings, and not take 5 hours to contact- if you play historical minis you know what I mean. Enjoy.

Adaptive Learning Environments (ALEs) can be viewed as the intersection of two traditionally distinct areas of research: instructional science and computer science. They encompass intelligent tutoring systems, interactive learning environments, and situated learning environments. There is increasing interest in effective instructional systems from education, industry, military and government sectors. Given recent advances in hardware architecture and reduction of hardware costs, the time is right to define the next steps in research and development of ALEs. This book is an outgrowth of the presentations and discussions that took place at the NATO Advanced Study Institute held at the University of Calgary in July 1990. It contains chapters from both researchers in instructional science and researchers in computer science on the following topics: - Systems and architectures for instruction - Representing curriculum and designing instructional tasks - Environments to support learning - Diagnosing students' learning and adjusting plans for instruction - Models of students' metacognition, motivation and learning strategies - Student-system interactions. The book containsintroductions/critiques of each pair of chapters, and a final chapter discusses the synthesis of instructional science and computer science.

Review
Rehearsing presents a compelling argument for each of the connections discussed in a clear and focused manner. Of particular note are chapters Teaching through Performance Concepts and Words to Live By, both of which contain phrases to use during rehearsal to solve problems and make connections quickly and succinctly. (Pan Pipes (Journal of Sigma Alpha Iota))

Following on the heels of his Conducting and Rehearsing the Instrumental Music Ensemble, John Colson takes students to the next level in this conducting practice with the Rehearsing: Critical Connections for the Instrumental Music Conductor. Colson here draws together the critical connections for those seeking to become fully capable and self-assured instrumental music conductors. As Colson argues, too often conductor training programs treat the problems and challenges of the rehearsal—perhaps the single most critical element in any effort to achieve competency as a conductor—as secondary. In this work, Colson supplies the missing link for conductors looking for advice that allows them to complete their training for reaching complete competency as a conductor. Colson demonstrates throughout the specific connections that the advanced conductor must know and regular employ, connections that few, if any, other works on the art of conducting address or bring together.

Wisdom and Witness Bonhoeffer, by Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Wayne Whitson Floyd

At a time when much of the world was either enticed with or entrapped by fascism, Dietrich Bonhoeffer dared to live the morally responsible Christian life to a most expressive, and in his case, tragic end. His legacy has inspired many, and it demonstrates his life and works to be among the most important of the twentieth century.

Forged during his struggle against Nazism, Bonhoeffer's striking notions of “religionless Christianity” (i.e., costly grace, direct religious engagement with political forces, and his own martyrdom) still speak directly to the situations faced by the Christians—and Christianity—of today. His key insights, combined with Floyd’s meditations which address meaning and significance for today, are powerfully presented here in fifty key passages grouped into eight areas of Bonhoeffer's concern: church, world, discipleship, politics, love, Christ, creation, and the future.

Review
“Dietrich Bonhoeffer is the one German theologian who will lead us into the third millennium.” -- Dorothee Soelle

“Some words Gorky used about Tolstoy come into my mind: ‘Look what a wonderful man is living on this earth!’” -- Malcolm Muggeridge

From the Publisher
From the Preface:

The life and writings of Dietrich Bonhoeffer continue to inspire and provoke, comfort and challenge, nurture and unsettle his readers, now into the twenty-first century. This brief book is offered to introduce you to the wisdom and witness of this remarkable human being.

Dietrich Bonhoeffer was a university professor with a doctorate in theology, a Lutheran pastor, a participant in the early ecumenical movement, a prolific writer, a central figure in the Protestant church struggle against Nazism. His participation in the plots to assassinate Adolf Hitler led to his arrest, imprisonment, and eventual death by hanging at Flossenburg concentration camp on April 9, 1945, at the age of 39.

In this volume I have chosen brief excerpts from Bonhoeffer’s writings—books, articles, letters, poems, lectures, and sermons—that reflect the wide range of his work and the depth of the theological themes that absorbed him. The excerpts, printed on left-hand pages, provide the inspiration for short meditations on each text. In my reflections I have attempted to provide clues to what each brief text is about, its context, and most importantly its enduring witness for Bonhoeffer’s contemporary readers.

Eight themes provide the focus for these reflections. The first is Church, a reflection of Bonhoeffer’s strong conviction about the social nature of everything about the Christian faith. The second is World, for this is where the church is located, and Bonhoeffer took Jesus’ prayer for God’s reign to come “on earth as it is in heaven” quite seriously. The third is the theme of Discipleship, following Christ, and the ways in which our faith and action in the world are intertwined. The fourth is Politics, for in Bonhoeffer’s day, as in our own, the most difficult sorts of challenges for our discipleship come when the church tries to live out its faith in a world that is decidedly political. Fifth is the theme of Creation, including meditations on the importance of the ways that we understand ourselves as creatures of God. The sixth is Christ, who has been the hidden center of all that has preceded this section. The seventh is Love, which Bonhoeffer saw to be at the heart of Jesus’ life and words and work. And we conclude with a section on the Future—Bonhoeffer’s, our own, and God’s.

I hope you will encounter here matters to think and pray about, to argue with friends and family about, thoughts that will sometimes keep you awake at night and sometimes help you to sleep more peacefully. Perhaps they will help you look at your own faith differently. The success of any short book like this is measured by whether it makes you want to search out more of Bonhoeffer’s wisdom from his own writings and to learn more about his witness to God’s grace in a world torn by human folly.

Floyd and Bonhoeffer-great combination
By Dr. John Laughlin
This very readable book of 125 pages is an enjoyable introduction to one of our great saints and christian guides. The works of Lutheran theologian and ethicist Dietrich Bonhoeffer are organized into 50 key passages grouped in eight areas of Bonhoeffer's concerns: church, world, discipleship, politics, love, Christ, creation, and the future.

Each full-page quote is expanded upon by Bonhoeffer scholar Wayne Whitson Floyd who explores the context and circumstances of Bonhoeffer's words as well as their meaning and significance for us today. The text is accompanied by photos of the author.

Bonhoeffer's luminous insights will challenge and clarify what it means to follow Christ, to be called a disciple, to understand the role of the church in politics, and to explore the impact on society of "religionless Christianity." His writings represent the very best of theology in times of terrorism and thus speak freshly and directly to our terror-ridden world.

Allow this introduction to lead you to further study his works or those about him.

This February marks the 100th anniversary of Bonhoeffer's birth and April 8, 2006 marks the 60th anniversary of his death when he was executed by the Nazi's at Flossenburg Concentration Campless than a month before the end of the WW II .
