Loved it!

Another book filled with complex, characters who don't do what you'd expect. Fantastic. I was uncertain the entire way how this was going to play out, the author and his characters kept me guessing. I was ready to throttle Bryan and wanted to have a frank discussion with Dan - giving him lots of cuddles. Highly recommended.

Like all of Sage's books, I couldn't wait for this one when it first came out, and I can't believe I didn't leave a review. Every book I read by this author is my favourite, then the next one comes out and that soon becomes my favourite. This one has stuck in my top five books by any author though, which proves how much I love it. These two men are well thought out and deep characters who you fall in love with and want to follow them through their life. Sage's books are always bittersweet, and I love the edge each character has which makes them stand out from so many other characters I read about. There’s mystery, romance, great sex, and it’s all perfectly written.

Captivating from beginning to end

Daniel Eames is appointed to protect a slightly brattish, young movie star who has been receiving letters from a mysterious stalker. His agent has arranged the protection to look after her most valuable asset, but it seems neither of them are happy with the arrangement.

Daniel wants to be professional, do his job to the best of his ability, but what he didn’t count on was his charges magnetic personality which pulls him close, too close for comfort ad to keep the assignment on an entirely professional footing.

Bryan is young, attractive and extremely devious. He knows the effect his charms have on people and uses them to get what he wants. There are times when he doesn’t always get it his own way and he really doesn’t like it. He can be childlike in his reactions at times, storming off and throwing strops of almost epic proportions, but how much of this is his real personality, and how much is his merely playing his role as one of Hollywood’s hottest rising stars to perfection.

Bryan has secrets, a lot of them. For a man very much in the public eye, so much is kept hidden away. You do get glimpses and teases of what these might be throughout the book, but never quite enough to work out the underlying mystery, or what he is trying so hard to hide from everyone. I actually stopped trying to work it out, and just settled back and enjoyed the ride. I’m glad I just went with it as there is no way I could’ve or would’ve ever guessed what would be revealed in the end, IF I had, it would’ve spoiled the surprise at the end of the book.

These two characters are well rounded and totally perfect together. They fit together well and although it’s not a smooth or easy relationship they have, but if it had been it wouldn’t have worked as well as it did for me. The interaction between them was believable, also very hot and steamy at times, it was, as always with Sage’s writing, perfectly balanced.
I was totally drawn into this story from the first page, and was captivated until the last, and was definitely left wanting more, which is nothing new!

Sage’s writing is captivating and pulls me inside the book with the characters and I can honestly say, he is now one of my favourite authors, and this book, one of the best he has written in my opinion.

Where's the copyeditor?

Okay, my first thought is, "Where is the copyeditor?" I jumped around to get a feel for the book and wherever I looked, there were misspelled words and poor word choices. It makes me wonder if the author's first language is English. The formatting is also not standard. That makes me wonder if it is self-published. The recommended reading section lists titles and authors only. No ISBN, publisher, or publishing date. I am not even all that fanatical about stuff like this, but it does stand out.

Here is an example from page 91. "Everybody should have a minimum of birth education. Part of the role of the re During the birth, the father's birth trauma is being activated, leading him to feel nervous and secrete adrenaline." Then all of this is repeated on the following page. ???

Anyway, on to the content. The sections are: Foreward, Introduction, The Pillars of Rebirthing, The Nine Big Traumas, of Human Beings, Perinatal Psychology, The Inner Child and Inner Teenager, The Healthy Adult, Spiritual Purification, Physical Immortality, Prosperity Consciousness, Guiding a Rebirthing Session, The Healing Power of Symptoms and Illness, How to Be a Successful Professional, Responsible Citizenship, Recommended Reading.

The title of the book is Manual for Rebirthers. The two topics I thought would create the essence of the book (Guiding a Rebirthing Session and How to Be a Successful Professional) take up 68 out of 262 pages. That is a huge disappointment. That said, the rest of the content is (mainly) quite useful. Even if you don't particularly agree with what is said, I think it's useful to see where the creator of rebirthing got his ideas from and why things are done the way they are.

If you want education in rebirthing, I don't think there is anything else out there that gives such a full account of what to do and why to do it. There are lots of ideas on what to do when you are stuck, how to get the most out of a session, and what not to do. The client testimonials were not that useful. I don't think the wording conveys the intensity of a session to someone who has never done one. However, it's such an esoteric experience that I am not sure any words would do.

There is a lot of talk about prana, divine energy, and new agey language that might put some people off.

The flow of this review is weird because the flow of the book feels weird. It just feels a bit "off." It feels like a labor of love, and I am absolutely grateful for it, but it feels like maybe the author didn't have enough help in making it as polished as it could be. Good info. Very poor presentation.

I really like this series!!

I cannot believe I haven't read this before now! I've read almost all of NJ Walters books, but for some reason I didn't get the first book in this series until a couple of days ago. I LOVE the Shadow Ryder's concept! It is a nice change of pace from the usual PNR ideas. I also like that it has lovable characters, good plot, strong writing and smokin HOT sex scenes. I really, really hope there will be more to come in this series because I will absolutely buy them!

Buddhism 101

I was looking for a good beginner's book on Buddhism, and found it with this one. Thubten Chodron did an excellent job in teaching the basics of Buddhism, it's history, and the difference in interpretations by various nations. She breaks down the chapters into various topics, from "Meditation" to "Social Activism & Ethical Issues." Each chapter is composed of Q&A's, like "What is karma? How does it work?" After reading this book, I got a great idea of how Buddhists view their world. This book is rather brief (150 pages) but it accomplishes it's intended purpose well.

Venerable Thubten Chodron is a wonderful writer - she explains things simply and sometimes humorously, and always holds the reader's interest. If you are beginning to practice Buddhism or are contemplating doing so, this book is a great place to start. It is the perfect book to give to friends or family members who are not familiar with Buddhism but want to understand your newfound spirituality.

Have questions about Buddhism?

I read this book after I finished a more scholarly book on Buddhism. It was quite refreshing to read "Buddhism For Beginners", as it is an easy read. The book is full of questions and answers from cover to cover. You can pick up the book, read it for an hour or so, or just read it for 5 minutes with ease. You can thumb through it looking for subjects that interest you, or you can go from cover to cover. Either way, it is a nicely written book, with clear and simple text. For one who actually wants to begin studying and practicing Buddhism I also suggest they read "Buddhism Plain and Simple" by Steven Hagen. These are both very good books!
