This book is the result of the deep involvementof the authors in the development of EDA tools, SystemVerilog Assertion standardization, and many years of practical experience. One of the goals of this book is to expose the oral knowhow circulated among design and veri?cation engineers which has never been written down in its full extent. The book thus contains many practical examples and exercises illustr- ing the various concepts and semantics of the assertion language. Much attention is given to discussing ef?ciency of assertion forms in simulation and formal veri?- tion. We did our best to validate all the examples, but there are hundreds of them and not all features could be validated since they have not yet been implemented in EDA tools. Therefore, we will be grateful to readers for pointing to us any needed corrections. The book is written in a way that we believe serves well both the users of SystemVerilog assertions in simulation and also those who practice formal v- i?cation (model checking). I bought the book one year ago but I've started to read it only recently. So far so good, it's a good book on SVA, but I have a question: where are the solutions for exercises? Some problems are quite complex and I would like to check my answers.

Her mother has died, and, as is customary in her culture, when a mother dies, the work of running the household, feeding the hungry mouths, and caring for the younger siblings falls to the eldest girl. Yet Nassali wants so much more than that for herself. Her brother, Matovu, attends school, and Nassali is heartbroken that she can't. When she rises one day and finds that all of her chores are completed, she is able to spend time practicing printing squiggles in the dirt that she has seen in books. Who gave her this gift day, she wonders? Matovu has seen her burning desire to learn and begins to help with the chores and tutors her as well, and it isn't long before Nassali is able to read something to her proud family. The monochromatic palette is dark throughout the book with no relief when things begin to look up for Nassali. Back matter describes the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, which often are inaccessible in countries such as Uganda. A final page provides a much-needed glossary. A young girl's passion for learning

"Gift Days" is an inspiring read and serves as a stark reminder of the struggles faced by young girls in developing countries. Nassali is a young Ugandan girl who carries the weight of her family's burdens on her young shoulders. Since her mother's death, she has been tasked with caring for her three younger siblings while her older brother, by virtue of being a boy, gets to go to school. Nassali's family, which is supported by her uncle and grandmother, is too poor to afford school and uniform fees for all the children, so it is the boy that gets the privilege of attending school while the girl tends to chores at home.

Nassali is frustrated by this unfair practice but refuses to give up her dreams of learning how to read. She tries to sneak her brother's book out of his hands after he falls asleep at night, but he finds her with the book in the morning and demands it back. She follows her brother to school, hoping to discreetly learn while hiding beneath the classroom window, but that doesn't work out either. What is a young girl to do? Luckily, Nassali has a kind brother who realizes his sister's passion for learning is not a mere flight of fancy, and gives her the invaluable present of 'gift days' where he finishes her chores for her and sits down to teach her to read. This gift sees Nassali not only finally attaining her goal of learning to read, but of eventually going to university.

Though this story ends on a positive note, many other girls in Nassali's circumstances are not as lucky. At the back of the book, readers learn the plight of thousands of Ugandan girls who have been forced to give up their education so that they can shoulder the burden of caring for their families when the mother is taken ill or dies, usually of HIV/AIDS which is depicted to be a serious problem there. The author also provides more information on this subject with web links that can help interested readers learn more about children's rights and some of the problems faced by children in third world countries. As for young readers though, I think this picture book serves as a wonderful medium to help them understand how privileged those of us living in developed countries are, where education is accessible, and where gender disparity is not as prevalent as it is in third world countries. A recommended read.

Wonderful Story with a Unique Perspective

Kari-Lynn Winters and illustrator Stephen Taylor have created a simple yet compelling story about a Ugandan girl named Nassali who lives in a small village and hungers to learn how to read. The story reads like a combination between a children's tale and an anthroplogial study. This does not mean that it is an unaccesible story. Quite the contrary. It makes the life of young Nassali significant yet different from the experience of North American children. It provokes good questions from kids (like my own) about how Nassali's life differs from theirs and why. Nassali's story is also one about how a child of great spirit can convince those around her to support her in her quest for an education even when women, esepcially young girls, are not encouraged to learn a great deal. The story concludes with a brief summary about United Nations' efforts to guarantee a good education for all children. Unlike some picture books, this volume includes some web resources to continue searching for information about kids and Uganda as well as a glossary of tribal terms used throughout the book. This is defintely a book that can serve as a young children's read-aloud as well as a jumping-off point for school-age children to begin their first non-fiction research. One additional note for educators, this book makes for a great Common Core State Standards resource for fiction/non-fiction reading pairs. Well done, Kari-Lynn and Stephen!

Talk and Social Theory is an inportant contribution to our understanding of everyday talk and its relation to broader social processes. Talk is unique and locally produced, crafted by particular social actors for the specific situation of its use. Yet the conduct of such talk is profoundly influenced by, and influential upon, social and cultural processes that occur beyond the temporal and spatial horizon of the occasion of the talk itself. Drawing on and criticizing social theory, Erickson explores the mutually reinforcing connections between the local conduct of talk and the general working of society, economy, and history.

The use of everyday examples enhances the appeal of Talk and Social Theory to a non-specialist as well as a specialist audience. Written in a clear and comprehensible way, it reviews key theoretical prospectives and conceptual frameworks in social theory and in the sociolinguistic study of talk. I bought this instead of the textbook

So most of my courses in school have required us to purchase books that we don't use. Argh! I would not be fooled again so I purchased this pocket guide and found the PDF older version of this book and it was perfect. I rarely used this book (see a theme here) but when I did there was a wealth of information coupled with the free older pdf version of the book. I recommend this pocket guide over the textbook and I will be carrying this in my white coat for my FM rotations.

P.S. Delivery was fast and what I wanted (new condition).

A nice surprise

I was very skeptical at first because of the size of the pocket guide; however, I am glad that I ordered it anyway. Over 400 pages seem ridiculous but Bate's has really done it. The pages are easy to read, the print is big enough, it helps having the main points right out of the regular size book, and it fits in your pocket. I highly recommend this to anyone having to do history taking and physical exams (MD, APN, RN, LPN, EMT, etc).

I'm a FNP student and used this A LOT during clinicals. Fits in my lab coat pocket. Great tool to use to go over focused physical exams before you see a patient. Exams are broken down into different systems.

About the Author
Master Hien V Nguyen was born in the province of Gia Dinh in South Vietnam amodst the height of the French colonization. Master Hien's extensive training in sorcery first began in May of 1967 during the Vietnam War after he joined the 5 Special Force Group Airbrne (commonly kown as the Green Beret) as a combat Interpreter, He has led an amazing life with many achievements, At the age of 8 he began to Immerse himself in the study of Buddhism and King Fu at the Mountain temple in Vietnam. At age 13, he became a Buddhist Hermit at the Mountain Cave in Vietnam. In 1993, Master Hien became a Buddhist Lay Monk at the Buddhist Mountain Temple in An Giang Province. Master Hien's martial arts studies led him to form the Dragon Club-International Martial Arts Association in 1984 and Vietnam Kung Fu Lohan System in 1994, His studies of Vietnamese/Chinese King Fu continued and let him to become the Master that he is today. At the time he ended his Kung Fu practice in 2008, he was an instructor and had earned the coveted title of World Grand Master in Martial Arts. Knowledgeable in the practice of sorcery for 46 years, Master Hien is well trained in many sorcery systems including Indian, Vietnamese, Cambodian and Chinese systems. He has become a highly respected Trainer, Teacher, and Practitioner, and is known as an Asian Master Sorcerer. During his residence in the United States, Master Hien has earned an AA in English from San Joaquin Delta College, followed by a Bachelors Degree in English from C.S.U.S. (California State University of Sacramento). In 1996, he went on to receive a PhD. in Educational Counseling from Southwest University In New Orleans, Louisiana. Master Hien is a wealth of knowledge and an amazing man. Master Hienn currently resides in California and humbly offers his assistance to those in need of consultation, spiritual advise and healing.
