Another exciting read by Daniel Arenson!!

Really enjoyed this sci-fi thriller. I love how Daniel develops the characters as they face adversity. While this is the first in a series, the ending did not leave me frustrated that I have to wait for the next book. I am looking forward to reading the next in the series when it comes out, but wasn't left hanging. He delves in to the characters and the story line quickly and caught my interest so that I wanted to see what would happen next and how the characters would handle their challenges and personal demons (and a "real" one, too...you'll understand if you read the book) and grow to be better. It's the classic good vs. evil, and while the individual "good" guys are far from perfect, I found myself cheering for them and hoping they'd succeed. Daniel has once again written a series that I can easily see myself reading again, one that leaves me wanting more.

Abolutely escapist intergalactic fun, I loved it!

I know this author from the Dragon trilogies and the Moth world. I was never expecting this type of book and enjoyed it very much. I mean who could not enjoy a fire-haired demon wearing jammies and carrying a teddy? This is a FUN read. I really enjoyed this offbeat, humorous, delightful trilogy.

I have read almost everything by Daniel Arenson, and, "Alien Hunters" is easily my favorite of all his books! The Alien Hunters are a fun and eclectic mix-matched group. From a honorable Knight of old, to a lovable demon named Romy, I couldn't put the book down once I started reading it. Can't wait for more from this series!

Sentimental book but the author needs more material...

Purchased this for a close friend. I have 2 other books by the same author. A lot of the material is repetitive. I have Mother and Daughter books that I gave to my mom and daughter. Several of the poems are repeats that the author seems to use in most of her books. It is a great book even with the repeats because each person I gave it to had no idea that the material is reused material. I added my own words at the beginning and each person said my words were the most important part for them. Even so, It is better than a card and gives the recipient something to hold to when they want something to remind them of you.

About the Author

Russell Foster is Professor of Circadian Neuroscience and the Head of the Department of Ophthalmology at Oxford University. His research spans basic and applied circadian and photoreceptor biology. For his discovery of non-rod, non-cone ocular photoreceptors he has been awarded the Honma prize (Japan), Cogan award (USA), and Zoological Society Scientific & Edride-Green Medals (UK). He has also written several books, such as Rhythms of Life , co-authored with Leon Kreitzman (Profile Books, 2004) and Sleep: A Very Short Introduction (Oxford University Press, 2012).

Leon Kreitzman is an esteemed author, biologist and broadcaster who is currently a visiting consultant at the Nuffield Health Centre at Oxford University. He has written numerous articles and books on the social and scientific factors of chronobiology, including The 24 Hour Society (Profile Books, 1999).

A Must-Read (Especially for Introverts)

This book is best read after Mortimer Adler’s companion piece, How to Read a Book, which outlines the responsibilities and strategies needed to successfully engage in reading and writing. Similarly, in How to Speak, How to Listen Adler offers the same practical and direct approach to the reciprocal processes of speaking and listening. Adler focuses on building his own ethos throughout the book through a comprehensive overview of the art of rhetoric using real life examples and references to others’ work.

Adler takes us through the entire process, beginning with our deficits: communication pitfalls, educational gaps, and hubris. He distinguishes between different types of speeches, such as what he calls the “Sales Talk” or lectures in order to strategize for varied motivations for speaking. These chapters of the book are detailed and user-friendly for those in educational fields and beyond. This book is not about pedagogy; it is intended to be an academic instruction manual for the masses. Adler establishes this objective early on.

At the end of the book, Adler emphasizes the reciprocity of speaking and listening by connecting communication to our collective sense of humanity. He sees this as particularly important in an increasingly digital world where communication feels one-sided and is delivered less often through personal interaction. Building, maintaining, and honing these skills is essential to our happiness. We need them to participate in all levels of community: international, national, regional, and local politics. Clear Points about Speaking and Listening from a Master Communicator

Mortimer J. Adler's "How to Speak How to Listen" makes several instructive points for the practical person seeking a theoretical framework as well as the novice professional speaker and meeting participant. These suggestions also connect well to writing at work.

Adler suggests an order for introducing into a presentation Aristotle's time-tested tripartite of persuasion as follows: ethos (credibility), pathos (emotion), and logos (logic). In addition, he examines two indispensable considerations of speech preparation, once again borrowing from Greek: taxis (the structure) and lexis (the language).
